About Lambertville Service

One of Black River & Western Railroad’s long-term goals is to restore passenger excursion train service to Lambertville, NJ! The portion of the railroad that connects Bowne Station to Lambertville hasn’t been used in regular service since 1997, so the Track Department is working hard to replace ties, clear brush, and make all the necessary preparations for the trains. If you want to lend a hand, visit this page for more information.

The Line

Black River & Western Railroad is based in Ringoes, NJ. This is where the two major divisions of the railroad meet. The “Alexuaken Division” runs south 2.5 miles to Bowne Station, then continues another 4.5 miles to Lambertville. The “Flemington Branch” runs north to Flemington and Three Bridges.

The Project

The goal is to reconnect Lambertville to Ringoes and Flemington, NJ, by rail! Black River & Western Railroad will offer a wide variety of passenger excursion trains, including convenient access to special events in downtown Lambertville and much more.

The service to the new station at Bowne began in 2017. This new service utilizes the first 2.5 miles of railroad to be rehabilitated and features a beautiful shaded picnic grove. This project is funded entirely by revenue from our existing excursion operations and private donations, so please consider making a tax-free donation here!

As of late 2021, service to Bowne Station has been temporarily discontinued due to damage from Hurricane Ida. However, the BR&W team hopes that we will return to Bowne soon. Check out our Facebook page for more updates regarding the status of Bowne Station train rides.
